The Competition
Odysseus, the husband of Penelope, has been gone for 20 years, fighting in the Trojan Wars. He comes back to his home only to find that there will be a competition to see who will take the hand of Penelope, since she has supposedly been "widowed" for many years. The Competition is to see who can string the bow of Odysseus, the one who can do it will win her hand. Odysseus, who has just returned, and learning of the plan, dresses as a beggar and enters the competition. To everyone's surprise, this "beggar" is able to string the bow and hit the target. It is in the defining moment shown here that his true identity is revealed.
